Course ratings today are broken. A 4.7-star Udemy course can be outdated. A 200k-like YouTube playlist can be a beginner trap. There's no way to compare a free channel and a $200 specialization on the same terms.
Zilwe is that missing layer. One honest 0–100 Trust Score per course, built from four outcome questions we ask every reviewer — did they finish, could they apply the skill, would they recommend it, at what prior level. We take no commission from any platform we cover.
The four outcome questions
- Did you finish it? Completion is the single hardest signal to fake and the one every star rating hides.
- Could you apply the skill afterwards? Learning that never leaves the browser tab doesn't count.
- Would you recommend it to someone starting out? A recency-weighted proxy for durable quality.
- What was your prior level? So a "great for beginners" doesn't get weighted like "great for pros".
The rules that keep it honest
- Below 3 reviews on a course, we show no score at all — no fake precision, no manufactured momentum.
- Each review needs at least 40 characters of free-text; no drive-by ratings.
- Max 5 reviews per user per 24 hours, one review per course.
- Score bands: 85+ excellent, 70+ good, otherwise developing.
- Recency-weighted so a course that was great in 2019 and stale in 2026 drifts down honestly.
- The exact weights are proprietary and evolve as we tune against gaming.
What disqualifies a review
- Under 40 characters of free-text, or copy-pasted boilerplate.
- Reviews from accounts that never confirmed an email.
- Reviews flagged by three or more other learners pending moderator review.
- Anything that reads like it was written by the course creator's marketing team.
Why there's no affiliate revenue
Almost every "best online course" list you've read is powered by affiliate commissions — the site earns when you click through and buy. That quietly biases which courses get recommended and which get buried. Zilwe takes no commissions, runs no sponsored placements, and accepts no pay-to-rank from any platform we cover. If we ever change that, it will be at the top of this page in bold.
What Zilwe isn't
- An accredited institution. We don't issue academic credentials.
- A course marketplace. We link out to the original — YouTube, Udemy, wherever.
- An affiliate site. No hand-picked lists, no paid placement, no commissions.
